So I have officially started my second week in this intense workout journey. I guess it is worth celebrating since some people don’t even make it back after week one. But I am not about to be shown up by my husband!!! I started off the day with a protein shake. Gotta loev those things, especially when you are running late for work. Plus with me being on my feet and running around all day it really helps keep the energy flowing. My AM snack was a Nutrigrain Cereal bar (apple cinnamon) and my lunch was chicken, whole grain rice, and some mixed veggies. My day went pretty well. I had a minor altercation with a patient, but that is to be expected where I work. Unfortunately my residents (or patients) are experiencing varying levels of dementia. Their aggitation and confusion is a part of their disease. They don’t really mean to cause problems or harm. If half of the people out there today knew what these residents go through on a daily basis they would think twice before getting annoyed with their “senile old grandma”. That being said…..my day was pretty good. We helped them bake some breads to share with the carolers that came to visit. They always enjoy the holiday season. My PM snack was some string cheese. Does anyone ever get tired of eating that stuff like when we were kids? To this day I still shred that thing into itty bitty pieces. For dinner we had a healthy version of goulash. Ground turkey, diced tomatos, whole grain elbows, garlic, and fat free parmeasean. We coupled it with a nice garden salad. Can you say YUMMY? After we finished up some homework with the chitlins it was time to do the ol X. Core wasn’t as rough this week as last week. Maybe it was because I knew my limits a little better. Instead of using 5lb weights and tweeking that shoulder injury I used 3lbs. I still found the boat/bow/banana/superman exercises a bit difficult, but not nearly as bad as last week. I think it had to do with the positioning of my chin. On the squat lunges I chose not to use weights. At this point in time I don’t see how I could possibly pump my arms back and forth as fast as I can WHILE holding 3-5lb weights. Guess that will have to be something I work my way up to. The exercises I find the most challenging are the chatarunga/plank running series and the reach high/reach low push ups. My upper body strength is definately not at that level yet. But I always at least give it my best shot. Even if that only means I can pump out 3 or 4 max. At least I didn’t just sit on my duff. I do have to say though that my favorite thing to do during this workout is the steam engine. You bring your hands behind your head while standing and then lift your knee to the opposing elbow while keeping a straight back. Very tiring but very fun. So that was about it for my day. Take care!
